New Youth Program Roll Out

With the current outbreak of COVID-19, the NSW New Youth Program Implementation Team have decided to postpone all April and May Up-skill sessions to a date yet to be set. We may in the very near future also postpone June and July and will inform you when and if this happens.

April Groups have been informed as notifications had been sent out re venues and times etc, however no emails have been sent to May Groups, but an email will be sent to all Groups that have applied and been approved that all sessions are being pushed back.

So where does that leave the project?  We are sitting really well at present in terms of the amount we have done, and as soon as we can we will jump back into weekends and continue with Up-skill we will, however we encourage all Groups in the meantime to Program around the 4 Challenge areas.

Six Steps to Programming Success

Beginning in 2019, all Scout Groups across NSW should have begun using the Challenge Areas to create adventurous, fun, challenging and inclusive weekly programs. It is super simple to ask ourselves what Community, Creative, Outdoor and Personal Growth challenges we can pursue, and then use our SPICES to Review> how we grew.

The six-step programming cycle is the best way to ensure that we are engaging the Fundamentals of Scouting in our programming journey. The steps are:

  1. Review> the success of the current weekly program;
  2. Gather all the events that are happening within Scouting and the community;
  3. Generate ideas of personal progression activities using the Challenge Areas;
  4. Plan> the program;
  5. Do> the program and support Scouts to deliver a successful program; and
  6. Continually Review> the program.

How can you empower your youth members to take ownership and deliver an awesome program!

This may also mean that dates in the later part of the year that have been promised may now have to be re-negotiated.  We are all in uncharted territory and as a Team I am  sure we will all work together to get as many Groups through this year as we can, but realistically some will have to wait till next year. We are still encouraging Groups to apply as this is important to scheduling when we can.

Say safe, look after yourself and families in this tough time.

Yours in Scouting,

One Program, One Journey, One Team
